Well, here I am out in the blogosphere for the first time. It's a little intimidating, but my New Year's resolution is to get out of my comfort zone and try new things.
I am an elementary school teacher in Southern California. I currently teach second grade. I have taught grades 2 through 5, with a couple of combos thrown in. I never thought I would leave third grade. I loved the curriculum, the physical and emotional development of that age group and my peers. I was wrong. I left to teach fifth grade of all things! It was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, I was experiencing some things that were not conducive to staying in that grade level.
So, lo and behold I was given a 2/3 combo. Holy smokes! This class was built based on the "last in - first out" rule in our school district. I had a wide variety of levels within each grade. This challenge ended up being the best thing that has ever happened to me. It renewed my PASSION for teaching!
Now I am back in a straight second grade class, just like I started with a whopping 16 years ago. These kids are so much fun. I am enjoying the challenges they bring to me. I plan on making sure this year is their best experience ever.
