Scrap-a-holic

Hi friends!

Just a little bit more about me.  Not only am I a teacher of wonderful second grade students, I am a scrap-a-holic.  I started the art back in 1993.  Oh how those pages embarrass me now! I took a break for several years and jumped right back in about 5 years ago.  Wow have things changed!  I am very dedicated to my art and try to devote a little time to it each day.  I also do a monthly scrap with a bunch of rowdy women.  I never miss it.  My hubby is so understanding! I have even started attending Expos when they are nearby.

So, yesterday was the opening of the Anaheim Scrapbook Expo.  I went with a good friend and fellow scrap-a-holic.  We were so excited because our favorite ladies of Kiwi Lane Designs were introducing their Idea Book.   Well, not only did we get our book, we were the first ones of the day.  We even had Debbie Budge take a picture of us with Susan.  I felt like we were with rock stars. www.kiwilanedesigns.com Here is a link to their page.  If you have not yet tried their templates, just check out their site.  It shows you some amazing tips and tricks to help your creativity along.  They even have a YouTube channel!

So this is an example of an early page.  Notice the white background. (I can't stand white backgrounds today.)
Here is an example of the types of pages I do now using KLD templates.  I love the depth of color and being able to get so many elements out of so few pages of paper.

Thanks for reading!

A New Endeavor

Well, here I am out in the blogosphere for the first time.  It's a little intimidating, but my New Year's resolution is to get out of my comfort zone and try new things.

I am an elementary school teacher in Southern California.  I currently teach second grade.  I have taught grades 2 through 5, with a couple of combos thrown in.  I never thought I would leave third grade.  I loved the curriculum, the physical and emotional development of that age group and my peers.  I was wrong.  I left to teach fifth grade of all things!  It was an amazing experience.  Unfortunately, I was experiencing some things that were not conducive to staying in that grade level.

So, lo and behold I was given a 2/3 combo.  Holy smokes!  This class was built based on the "last in - first out" rule in our school district.  I had a wide variety of levels within each grade.  This challenge ended up being the best thing that has ever happened to me.  It renewed my PASSION for teaching!

Now I am back in a straight second grade class, just like I started with a whopping 16 years ago.  These kids are so much fun.  I am enjoying the challenges they bring to me.  I plan on making sure this year is their best experience ever.
